Hi!

Usually its the baby's grandma or something that carries the babye, sometimes it's just the baby's mother or father.

It's all the parents choise.

And usually it's not the same person that carries the baby who removes the hat.

When we babtised our baby, my mother carried her, and my mother in law removed the hat. That's about the most common. But you may choos whoever you want, choose someone you trust and someone you love.

Our princess was babtised two weeks ago in Vålerengen kirke. We had two godparents. One of them carried her, and the other one remowed the hat. It is the most common in my family.

Good luck!

This is a real can of worms in some Norwegian families! Being the person to carry the baby up to the font is seen as the greatest honour, and some people think that this means that the person to carry the baby is the most important godparent.

And taking off the wretched hat (note: remove before photos if you want to see which baby was actually baptised that day!) is a few notches below in importance.

We put paid to all such ideas by carrying our babies ourselves. ;)

In my family, the tradition is that the father carries the baby, and the mother removes the hat. So we did it like that. I think it is cute: the mother gives birth to the baby, and the father gives the baby the new birth: to become God's child.
