Hello. The same thing happened to me 2.5 years ago! I found out a week before the interview. I was thinking about it allot and decided to tell them at the end of the interview. When we had gone through all the formalities and so on, they asked if I had anything to add; so I said that I had just found out about the baby... They looked really shocked and said congratulations and that they apritiated the honesty.

I really belived that I they wouldn't give me the job but they did!

Even though you don't have to tell them, I think it's better to be honest from the start. I worked for me.

Good luck!

Then you really need the job, anyway.

"Nybebis" was lucky. It's a well-known fact that pregnant women often are discriminated against.

You should definitely consider that you may not be offered the job if you tell them. If not telling is not an option for you, then you should at least wait until they offer you the job. Then they cannot blame you for not telling - although of course they cannot legally retract the offer.

In this month's issue of the norwegian magazine Gravid they had an article bout being pregnant while searching for jobs. Their advice was to hold ur bellys in and don't say anything if at job interviews. I would say the same. Good luck anyway!

hi girls...

thanks so much for the replies. I am feeling physically sick over the interview, altho that maybe caused by other things too....

I think what I will do is.... go for the interview and say nothing, it is after all, very early and possible that I am not aware that I am pregnant at this stage. If I get offered the job, I will let them know then.....

I would consider myself honest and I dont wanna lie, but it seems unfair that I should not be given this opportunity just coz Im gonna have a baby........

I will let u know how it goes..... wish me luck....

takk....

Sinah, I wan't "lucky". It was because I am very good at what I do ;0)

( It is actually true, I'm not saying this because I am offended, just becuse if you have something special to offer it's better for them to offer a pregnant lady a job in the long run then to dismiss her. )

Theoretically, you are probably early enough along to lie and say you didn't know at the time of the interview.

I was working through a temp (5 month contract), before my term was up I found out that I was pregnant with twins. Knowing that I would have to go on sick leave around week 20 and having a longer leave after, they still offered me a permanent position and with a raise!

I think it depends on where the job is and how the market is at the time. I realize that I was extremely lucky but there is something to be said for being good at your job.

Hei soontwins...

wow that was really super for you, It gives me hope....

Well, heres whats happening for me at the moment...

I applied for a job, its in "staten" ok.

so they havent gone thru the recruiting process for the job I applied for just yet but they needed someone quick, and they picked me out of the list of applicants, and called me yest and I went for a chat today, they offered me a 6 mth contract then and there. Im delighted about it and its perfect for me as it means I will be finished just in time and I will be entitled to fødselspenger. but OMG Talk about bad timing...

Im still needing some time to accept that I am pregnant and Im having a really hard time of it....... :''( feeling v guilty too.....

So heres to hoping I dont get sick or anything while Im working there and I can prove how wonderful I am and they wont wanna let me go....... hehe

Well, that's true, and if you are treated properly whilst pregnant, you will be much more motivated to go back and continue doing a super job!

But, unfortunately, not all employers think like that.... however some decent employers do exist, of course!

And the best of luck to you, Starsky, both with the job and the pregnancy :0)

Good for you =)

What you can do,is simply to tell your boss after a week or so that "I just found out I`m pregnant, but I don`t think it will interefere with what I have to do at work, since I only have a contract for 6 months to start with"

("just found out" can mean yesterday or a couple of weeks ago ;o)

You shouldnt feel guilty. This happens to a lot of women =)

Happened to me too,once.

Don't feel guilty, if the company is worth working for they will see you as an asset to the company (provided you can do your job). You only need 6 of 10 months to qualify for fødselspenger so that was excellent for you. I have known women to say they just found out in their 4th month...it does happen. I didn't tell my employer until I came back from holidays. Found out about the pregnancy in May, went on vacation in June and told them in late July/August after I found out it was twins. I hadn't really wanted to tell them as I wasn't showing that much however being twins I was put on gradiated sick leave and had to tell them.

Good luck to you!

I would not say a word. Not until I'd got the job. Many employers think twice before employing a pregnant woman no matter the qualifications of aforesaid woman, even though they are not allowed to make such discrimination. (that is, if the job is in Norway....)
