Fadere and Gudmor?

Anbefalte innlegg

Hei,

We are having the dåp for our baby in June and have chosen 4 fadere (2 sisters and 2 friends). I was told that it was not common to have a grandparent be a fader but we were recently at my mother-in-law's house and she asked about this. Apparently, it used to be common? Is it not now?

Also, is it common to have a gudmor? And who usually holds the baby during the dåp?

Thanks for any input. I am new to the dåp procedures here in Norway!

Takk!

Hi:)

Traditions around baptisms vary a little depending on where in the country you are. Some places parents hold the child during the baptism, other places it´s common to have godparents (gudmor). We held our child ourselve, but I´ve also seen a lot of people use godparents. Do whatever you want, or ask the priest what´s common in your area.

When it comes to grandparents I´m not quite sure. My godmother was my grandmother and we used my husbands steph-father as a sponsor at our sons baptism. However, what is common is not the same as what´s allowed. There are no upper limit of how old sponsons can be.

Good luck:)
