I think Kim is a name that woul suit a boy!

I know plenty of boys named Kim, and only one girl.

I'm from Norway:)

Kim is definitely a boy's name in my book, but beware before you name your baby that - statistically Kim is associated with "losers", and I can confirm that. Of all the Kims I have taught or met, 90% of them end up that way. I guess low income/low education - households take a liking to Kim, Kenneth, Ronny, Roger, Andrè, Renè and Kai for example.

I think it sounds great on both. My childhood sweethearts name is Kim, so I always though of it as a boys name, but then my norwegian uncle and philipino auntie named their baby girl kim. Now I think it is even lovlier on a girl! (Her middle name ia Marie, to make it "girlier", but we never use it, becuase we don't associate the name with a boy anymore).

It is a boys name in Norway but I would pick a name that works well in both countries.

Even though I know several Norwegian males called Kim (all of them has higher education, university level btw), it will allways be a girls name for me, my best US-friend is called Kim (Kimberly).

I guess it depends on who you are and what circles you hang around in :P

Kim is very femmy in America. I would not choose it for a boy.

I see this is an 'old' message, but who cares ;-))

In my opinion (as a foreigner) Kim is a girls name... even though, after 12 years in Norway I've got used to Kim being a boys name.

But, I would never name my son Kim, cause my family would think that was quite 'weird' ;-))

The same goes for Inge, which is a girlsname to me, but a boys name in Norway.

I think it's important to think 'bilangual' when you are a foreigner, and have family in another country.

Who knows if you'll ever return?

We gave our kids Norwegian names (since we have this hard foreign last name ;-) ), but we did think of pronounciation in the country our families are from.
