mady Skrevet 17. desember 2006 #1 Skrevet 17. desember 2006 Please help me with some tips and hints. My two year old toddler is a well behaved child but when I go shopping he will completely loose it and lie on the floor and kick and scream what can I do? It is so frustrating when I have to do my Chrsitmas shopping, and I get so embarassed.
Athravil Skrevet 19. desember 2006 #2 Skrevet 19. desember 2006 I once saw a parent start screaming and behaving like the child... That shocked and embarrassed the child to silence and well behaviour... Some two year olds are a bit young to understand explanations, so try to keep them simple. My suggestions may also be a little to early, but worth a try? Try betting? "I bet you cannot keep silent while we are in this shop". "Punish" the child and stick with it. If you say no, then it is no. If you say "behave or we will go home" then quit shopping and go home if there are no improvement. And do not give any reward if behaveiour is bad. Talk about how we behave with other people (and always really) and what people may think of the child when (s)he is having a tantrum. The last one I have done with my nephew and he hates to be thought of as a "baby" or "stupid"... And we put a lot of stress that we know he is much smarter so why would he do this? However, I would recommend a babysitter when doing Christmas shopping and then work on shopping with child when there is fewer people around and a less stressfull time of year...
margitelise Skrevet 19. desember 2006 #3 Skrevet 19. desember 2006 When that happened to me, it was rare, I just let him freak out. When I can speak to him, I tell him I understand he is upset/frustrated because... (of whatever he is upset about). If he is upset because I'm not getting him something he wants, I just let him go until he wears himself out, nodding to those who walk by and stare. It usually went over fast and I NEVER gave in. I found I just needed to stay calm and let'em have his fit, it was just a way of showng feelings. Also, I think it helped if he knew I knew why he was so upset.
