hi

does anyone know where i can get information for support if i'm a

student and pregnant?

also, if i'm pregnant when i'm working, how will i qualify for support i.e. mamma permission? i've heard something about working for the past 6 months before i am able to get support. does that mean, while i'm pregnant or before i fell pregnant.

thank you!

Hi

This is how I've understood it.

You have to have worked 6 of the past 10 months when your baby is due. So, yes, work while you are pregnant. But if you are a student you should talk to Lånekassen about support. I think there is something called Fødselstipend. I would also call my local trygdekontor and ask about it. I'm pretty sure they could give you all the answers you are looking for. Good luck!

You can still get maternity leave from your studies if you qualify from a "fødselsstipend" from Lånekassen (this is purely scholarship, not loan, and the amount is given on the basis of what your partner earns). You can either keep on studying full time, or take time off school (maternity leave) - it will not make any difference, you will still get the money from Lånekassen (but you will need to make arrangements for the maternity leave with the college/university) The "fødselsstipend" runs for 42 weeks, and you will need to have been studying full time for 6 months before having the baby (same as with work; you need to have been working at the same place for 6 months or more to qualify for maternity leave from work)

You can also apply for a set amount of money from social security (Trygdekontoret), you will get it if your partner earns less than a certain amount. This is about 34 000 nok, and will be paid when the baby is born if you are eligeble for it.

The best thing you can do is to contact Lånekassen directly, preferably by phone (be prepared for long queues) or go talk to them in the office, and to contact Trygdekontoret as well.

Best of luck to you!

You can get information about studying and being pregnant at lanekassen.no and you can get information about working and pregnancy at trygdeetaten.no

you can also take sick leave before the birth if you are sick and stuff too.
