Anonym bruker Skrevet 11. oktober 2006 #1 Skrevet 11. oktober 2006 I would really appreciate if anyone could help me with this. I have a daughter (less than a year) here in Norway, but I’m not seeing the mother. I really would like to stay, but to get a visa I would have to find a job. And to find a job I have to have a work visa. As you can see, I feel hopeless. I do not speak Norwegian either, just English! Does anyone have any advice to give me in this situation? Do you know how or where I can look for help or jobs in general? Obviously, I’ve looked on the net, but it doesn’t give any result. I’ve also experienced that there are a lot of non-Norwegian speaking workers in the country. Does anyone know what door they went knocking on? Is there any companies who would hire foreign workers and help them get a work visa. Any job will do! Thank you!
Anonym bruker Skrevet 11. oktober 2006 #2 Skrevet 11. oktober 2006 In order for you to get a job in Norway without actually speaking Norwegian you will have to have some special skill that they need. So what are your skills? They need eg. engineers and construction workers, also doctors and nurses. Are you on her birth certificate as her father? Maybe you could get a visa if you have "samværsrett", which means that you have partial custody. If not, then you can't get a visa because of that. Which country are you from? Because there are different rules for different countries. Are you from the EU, or the States, or another country?
Anonym bruker Skrevet 12. oktober 2006 #3 Skrevet 12. oktober 2006 Hi Thank you for quick reply. My name is on the birth certificate, but I don’t have any custody. I’m from New Zealand, so they figured it a bit hard for me to have her. I worked in construction when I was in NZ, but I’m also a recreational diver . Would you know any companies I could contakt or any avenues that I could take ? I would be most thankful .
Gjest Skrevet 12. oktober 2006 #4 Skrevet 12. oktober 2006 hey, i am from new zealand aswell im living here with my boyfriend and 10 month old son, i dont have a job either, its not so easy finding a job when you dont speak norwegian, but not impossible i think i think that you can find information that you need on this website www.udi.no its all do to with immigration to norway and stuff, you can put the whole site in english too you dont have to have a job to live here though, you can study or live here for family reasons. they have this thing called family immigration, i saw on the udi site. you can look for jobs on nav.no, they just changed the name from aetat to nav, i think you can put that site in english too goodluck
missfou Skrevet 12. oktober 2006 #5 Skrevet 12. oktober 2006 Heisann, i was just looking through the english forums and fell upon this one, Im from New Zealand aswell and have been living in bergen almost 2 years. I have a 6 week old baby girl and thought it pretty amazing to see other Kiwis around here. ... sorry, nothing to do with what you are talking about.
Anonym bruker Skrevet 12. oktober 2006 #6 Skrevet 12. oktober 2006 If you have construction experience you might be able to get employment. There are thousands of foreigners working in construction without knowing a word of Norwegian. I think that NAV could help you find employment. Or a Norwegian friend who could help you search the web. You could also try and get partial custody (eg. one day a week). On the basis of this you can get a resident permit. Although I don't know if you're on speaking terms with the childs mother....
Gjest Skrevet 12. oktober 2006 #7 Skrevet 12. oktober 2006 Thats so cool:) i think its cool to hear about other new zealanders in norway too we do get around hehe, congratulations on your baby girl! i hope everything is going well

I hope everything works out so you can stay here and see your kid

kiwi pappa! Skrevet 18. oktober 2006 #12 Skrevet 18. oktober 2006 Hey i live in Oslo area not far from Bærum. I have friends in palmy also, and i think Dannevirke is were the Norwegian settlers lived when they came to new zealand:)
Gjest Skrevet 18. oktober 2006 #13 Skrevet 18. oktober 2006 yeah i knew about dannevirke being where the norwegians settled in new zealand, its funny coz none of my new zealand family are norwegian, and now im living in norway
Anonym bruker Skrevet 19. november 2006 #14 Skrevet 19. november 2006 You can easily get jobs within construction work if you are qualified as they are crying out for people at the moment..My father is in the same trade, and a lot of his colleagues don't even speak English!! I think you shoud contact your local Arbeidskontor (office of employment) and try to get registered there.. You might need to contact your consulate or Embassy concerning a VISA to stay in the country,, Good luuck
SusieQ-Anna210707+Kasper090409 Skrevet 19. november 2006 #15 Skrevet 19. november 2006 You can get general information on www.nyinorge.no I'm not sure where you live, but if it is in the Oslo area, why don't you try HYDRA (diving shop/courses) on /Grunerloekka?.

Athravil Skrevet 13. desember 2006 #18 Skrevet 13. desember 2006 Great to see some Kiwis around here! I got a host brother from Dunedin, hope to go to NZ some day. Have you been in touch with any temp-agencies? I do not know if you need a work permit in order for them to employ you. However, if they have a suitable job for you I am sure they can help out obtaining one. Some temp-agencies and consultant agencies I know of (I do not know if they are of relevance for you, though): Adecco Kelly Services Sør Vest Consultants AGR RC Consultants Manpower Norges Vikar Rett Bemanning Profiles International Norway AS Top Temp Westaff VikarPartner It is at least worth checking out. Many bars and restaurants hires English speaking personell, especially English, Irish, Scottish and Amercan concept firms. Wish you luck!
