Hi Jane,

I am from Athlone in County Westmeath. I grew up in Ireland and moved back to Norway 10 years ago. Both my parents are Norwegian, but they still live over there.

I am married to an Irish guy and we have a boy of 21 months. We are also hoping to get pregnant again. Your boyfriend will probably learn Norwegian quickly enough if he really tries to. My husband speaks very well now. He has been here for 8years. Tell your boyfriend to just get started and not to leave it too long. Its important if he wants to integrate.

Good luck with getting pregant...

Lou ;=)

I am v happy here but I miss the contact with irish people. I have some irish friends here, they are v important to me!! Ur bf must be a bit lonely not understanding much norwegian. When I came here first it was awful not being able to understand what people were saying.. it was hell in fact! hehe. buts its all good now, I understand everything, although I never thought I would.

Where is ur bf from?

To all of you Irish in Norway - we are an Irish/Norwegian fam. living in the US at the moment. We are wanting to move to Norway, but it is hard for my husband whom is Irish, to find work in norway. Any suggestions to where he can try? He has 20+ yrs. experience in the restaurant/bar industry, but it still seems hard when his Norwegian consists of 4-5 words only. It is hard to learn while over here, but on the other hand we can't move over before he get's a job over there. I am a stay at home mom at the moment w/2 girls under 4...Not easy - but we want home to Norway!!!

I would say that the time should be good now as unemployment is at an all-time low. As for work - check the Irish bars - I know for a fact that there are people that have worked there without any/much norwegian (although it is probably an advantage). Go to gulesider and do a search for the bars.

If it seems hard to get a job for him - what about swapping for a while - he can be stay-at-home dad - go to open kindergarden + go to classes in the evening... :)

Whatever you choose - good luck - and as I said - I dont think it should be too hard to get a job.

My fiance is from Belfast, but we live in Bergen and we are expecting our first in October.. I think he'd like to have someone to talk to here as well, cause he doesn't speak much norwegian.

The Dubliners and Dirty Nelly are two of the Irish pubs in Oslo, and I have been served there by English-speaking bartenders.

Moving from Dublin to Oslo in June, and feel quite sad about that, so I would love to meet some Irish when back home. Am Norwegian to - the hubby is Norwegian/English (maybe not so popular with the Irish? Ah, well at least he's not a posh southerner :0)

My husband ended up getting a job w/TGI Fridays on Aker brygge. He worked w/TGI over here in FL . The last years, after kids, he has gone away from the pub's and been w/restaurants/bars. Go see him there, he-he! He always loves to meet new Irish people, or english for that matter, he-he. He has a lot of english friends too. I ma not going to blot his complete identity, but his last name is Reilly and he is from Dublin. I am still over here in FL w/the kids. We are following as soon as this bloody house sells!!! The market is veeery slow over here right now. good luck w/your move to Oslo. At least it is not too far to back to visit friends/fam. in Dublin. Ryan Air has cheap tickets from Torp, right!?
