Anonym bruker Skrevet 11. juni 2006 #1 Skrevet 11. juni 2006 Well, I'm from the US, and my "samboer" is Norwegian.. Our baby is due December 28, but we need some help finding a name that will work both ways, in both languages... Any ideas? We have found a girls's name that we are very pleased with, but we need some ideas for a name if it turns out to be a little boy... Hope you can help us
Gjest Skrevet 12. juni 2006 #2 Skrevet 12. juni 2006 Hi We are in the exact same situation... I've been through many books, the Statistisk sentralbyrå etc... but we're still back in square one. My husband likes the name Jakob, which I think is lovely in English but I just don't think it sounds as nice in Norwegian (only because it resembles the work 'yuck' in the beginning). I like Patrick, but he's not too sure of that name for some reason or another. Some other suggestions we have been given include: Leander Tommy/Thomas Kristian Anders Roger John/Johnathan Markus Alexander Adrian Emil Kristoffer Daniel Oliver Lukas Oscar Erik Kasper Simon Isak Benjamin Dennis David Martin Max Peter Noah Robert Sebastian Hope this helps in your quest

Gjest Skrevet 15. august 2006 #5 Skrevet 15. august 2006 hi its really hard finding a boys name thats for sure, my sons name is Leo william i hope my next child is going to be a girl coz i already have erika picked out , maybe erika michelle. other names i thought about- Adrian Noah Lucas Isak, isaac Tobias
CaliforniaBaby2 Skrevet 15. august 2006 #6 Skrevet 15. august 2006 I think Jacob is very nice in Norwegian, and wanted to use that if I have a boy, but my American husband hates the English sound of it, so I guess we’ll have to settle for something else. His criteria are pretty funny — no ‘r’, as it is hard to pronounce the same way in both languages, short — less room for spelling errors when you have to spell it over the phone, a name that can be used in America (anything goes, really!), Germany (his parents) and Norway (my family). We still have 7 weeks left until due date, so hopefully we can agree on something. Not much help this, but at least we are more people in the same situation.
Anonym bruker Skrevet 24. august 2006 #7 Skrevet 24. august 2006 Our son is called Jens Aleksander and it works well inn both the Australian, German and Norwegian part of the family! I think we went through every name in the book and it was really difficult, hopefully the next one will be a girl....!!! So good luck to all you struggling to find a good boys' name! :-)
jente og gutt Skrevet 25. august 2006 #8 Skrevet 25. august 2006 we had the same problem with our baby. we agreed on one irish name and one norwegian. but names that can easily be said in both languages.
miss.alwayssmiling! Skrevet 30. august 2006 #10 Skrevet 30. august 2006 Hi! Well i'm scottish and my little girls father is norweigan (not together anymore;P) Well i guess it was mostely me who was trying to think of names. we didn't know if it was a girl or a boy, (couldn't see it on the ultrasound), but i managed to find 3 names for a girl and boy, which where english and could not be changed into norweigan and have a weird name! I knew my selv it was gonna be a girl so i decided og Katie, had said that the whole time i was pregnant, suddenly when she was placed on my stomach her name came to me, Emma =) So i wouldn't worry about it to much, i'm sure that when you finally get to see you baby, you'll know exactly what to call her/him =) Good Luck!
Anonym bruker Skrevet 31. august 2006 #11 Skrevet 31. august 2006 I girls name is always easier. Last time my husband suggested Avery for a boy (got a girl) I think it sounds like a girls name or a last name. I know there are both boys and girls with this name. What do you think about this name? I would love to find a boys name who sound about the same in French, English and Norwegian. Suggestions?
miss.alwayssmiling! Skrevet 31. august 2006 #12 Skrevet 31. august 2006 hmm i thought of Robert/Lance/Peter.. will look in the book i have later on, have a little girl here thats a bit hungry ;P
mamma-til-fire Skrevet 7. september 2006 #13 Skrevet 7. september 2006 Hi. What about Phillip? Like that name and it's the same in most languages. I can't use it, have a nephew with that name. My son is called Benjamin and if this one is a boy it will probably be Elias, I.m even thinking about Noah. Have some time to think about it, my due date is in april.
Anonym bruker Skrevet 8. september 2006 #14 Skrevet 8. september 2006 How about Christian and Selma ???
Gjest Skrevet 9. september 2006 #16 Skrevet 9. september 2006 I think we have finally come down to 2 boy names... Alexander/Aleksander, or Adrian. Boy names are so much harder, we had a girl name picked out in no time for our first, and another girls name picked out before we found out this one's a boy. It's so bizzarre, I wonder why it's so much harder to pick out a boys name?!
~Monsoon~en gutt, en jente~ Skrevet 9. september 2006 #17 Skrevet 9. september 2006 Hi! We have a 4 yrs old boy and his name is Joseph William, but we call him Joe and thats never been a problem. As long as you like the name, thats the main thing.
Gjest Skrevet 13. september 2006 #18 Skrevet 13. september 2006 Someone in skravlesiden had this name for their son - Kevin alexander, i thought it was so nice

Anonym bruker Skrevet 14. september 2006 #21 Skrevet 14. september 2006 Hi, I am norwegian. I have 2 american sons, and their names are Lukas & Brandon. Works good in both countries ) (we live in the USA) Other names : Sarah Olivia Elisabeth Michael Chris Benjamin (one of my favorites =)
Tokatter_USA Skrevet 22. september 2006 #23 Skrevet 22. september 2006 My husband is an American with a Norwegian name, and he did NOT want our child to grow up with a "weird" Norwegian name too. (We live in the US.) But he liked Mikkel. So that's what our son would have been named, if he wasn't a girl. I thought boys' names were easier than girls' names, so we didn't have one for our daughter. But it came to me while still in the hospital. Espen is another boy's name that's pronounceable in most Western languages.
