sarinamor Skrevet 5. april 2006 #1 Skrevet 5. april 2006 Hi, I found out that I'm pregnant and have no idea about what to do next regarding health services. Who should I contact first: my doctor or the midwife in the area? When is it that women should get their first pregnancy control? When is it that women get their first ultrasound? How often will I visit the doctor and/or midwife? Any guidance will be kindly appreciated!

He has given me the phone number of the local midwife (jordmor) who i needed to contact after. At the beginning you must see a doctor or a midwife in every months regarding pregnancy check ups, on your own choice. My doctor also arranged the first and only ( it might have changed since ) ultrasound at my first visit for the 18th week of my pregnancy. Basicly if you have no problems you only see somedody ( doc. or midwife ) once a month, for urine, blood preause and general check ups. Ginecologiest does not even need to see you if you do not wish. I would advice you to ask your doctor about vitamine folid( folat) which is important to take from the beginning and at least at the first 3 months of your pregnancy. May i ask where in norway are you, and from which country? Please let me know if you need more info, i am living in Trondheim, on the 33rd week of my pregnency. I am glad to be in your assistance. Good luck. :-) Viktoria
