Why do we speak Norwegian in Norway?

Kan vi ikke bare stoppe å lære våre barn engelsk, og standardisere engelsk i stedet? Det ville vært mye mer praktisk.

Why do you use American spelling? Obviously, English is not as “standardised” (notice my British spelling of that word) and convenient as you might think. Our orthography is much less logical than that of Norwegian. 

I am from England, but I have lived in Norway since I was 10 years old. I have given my children Norwegian names and I want them to be proficient in the Norwegian language. After all, this is where they grow up and most likely will stay.

In addition, much of the Norwegian culture is dependent on the language and even the dialects. This would be lost if the Norwegian language is replaced by English.

Your way of writing is very different from the way an adult English or American would write something similar, and it’s easy to see the Norwegian sentence structure behind your English words. Which is not a huge problem in itself, but it proves the fact that it is usually better to use your native language to convey your thoughts.

If you want to sound less Norwegian when speaking English, you could always reframe what you wrote. For example: “In my opinion it would be much more convenient to let English replace Norwegian as the official language of Norway”

I am not sure if you understand what it means to “standardise English”. English is already standardised. Yet different standards exist. One in the United States, another one in the United Kingdom, etc. The way you end one sentence with “instead” (a very colloquial word not used much in writing) and starting your next sentence with “it” gives your writing a Norwegian touch, I must say.

Tråden besvarer vel seg selv. Vi snakker norsk fordi vi er dårlige i engelsk.

I tillegg til det som er nevnt før har vi en del spesielle ord og fraser som vanskelig lar seg oversette, men som vi har bruk for i Norge på grunn av den naturen vi har her og h kordan vi lever. Det ligger veldig mye kultur i språket som er vanskelig å få med om vi skifter språk.
