Anonym bruker Skrevet 21. mars 2010 #1 Skrevet 21. mars 2010 Both of us need Norwegian førerkort. What do we need to do? How much does it cost? We both have DL's from the US, we have never had Norwegian. We got the American ones when we were 15 and 17, so we have had them for 10+ years . Thanks!
ZoeSelina Skrevet 6. april 2010 #2 Skrevet 6. april 2010 How to go about getting a Norwegian drivers licence varies a bit depending how long you've been in Norway. If you're still within your first year (regardless of what kind of visa you arrived on, including tourist) you can transfer your US licence to Norwegian just by taking a practical test. I believe you will need to surrender your US licence though, and you don't get it back if you fail. This costs around 4-5000 kroner. If you, like me, didn't know about the one-year-rule, you will need to start driver training from scratch. This involves taking practical lessons, taking a written test and finally taking a practical exam (driving test). This process can be quite expensive, but there are a number of driving schools that will package all the costs together (you have to pay for lessons, rental of an approved practice/exam car etc). I have been quoted anywhere between 17000 and 30000 kroner. Another tip I can give you is to book early. Sometimes it can take up to 6 months to get a place at a driving school. There are driving schools that will conduct all lessons and the exam etc in English though, so that's a plus. For more information take a look at http://www.vegvesen.no/en/Home Good luck!
