Calling all English speaking Mums and Mums-to-be in Bergen?!

Hi everyone

 

I am an English girl and have been in Bergen for 6 months with my Norwegian partner. I am expecting my first child later on this year.

 

I have found it hard to make friends with Norwegian girls (i've tried really hard and sometimes have felt like a stalker!) and have been hanging out with my partners male friends which is great, but nothing beats meeting new girls and women and doing, well you know...female stuff!

 

Now i am pregnant, I would really love to make some connections here and build up a network for me and my baby.

 

Any other young mums, or mums-to-be out there in my situation? Would love to hear from you and maybe get together for coffee and compare notes on being in Bergen!

Hi, I agree it can be difficult to find friendships in a new city! Do you speak norwegian at all? Like I commented in another post, the New to Bergen group meets once a month at Dickens at 6 pm, first Friday of the month. You may meet some moms-to-be there! Have you tried an international church if you are so inclined? Have you asked your helsesøster if she knows any pregnant english-speakers?

I have older children myself but if you cant find anyone in your situation we could surely meet up for a coffee and chat!

Thanks for your reply. I will definitely be there at the Dickens for the next New Kids in Bergen meeting! I have never seen that advertised anywhere and would have gone before now if i had known it existed. I only came across this site by chance. Its inspiring me to start something up myself for the local English speakers!

 

I dont speak norwegian yet as have only been here a few months and before that my partner and I just spoke english to one another (we still do of course) but I have registered at the Nygard Skole for evening classes in Norsk which i hope to start soon.

 

Are you Norwegian? I'm really keen to meet norwegian girls too who dont mind speaking to me in English for a year or so!

Wow! This is fantastic! I guess we'd better decide on a day and time to meet seeing as there are suddenly so many people interested. I'm pretty much free most of the week except for tomorrow morning.

i am free tomorrow (monday) from around 10, wednesday as long as I know at least the day before, from 10 30, or friday from 10. Earlier is better then later for me as I have a schoolkid coming home from school.. Any other days then monday I will maybe bring my 5 year old as well as the 1year old, so a good place to meet may be the cafe upstairs in Galleriet where there is a play area. Any other ones bringing older kids? Do you know any other places except Galleriet that may be fun for older ones? Sounds like fun meeting up!

When I said earlier is better then later I meant that 10 30 or 11 30 is a better starting time for me then 12 30 or 13 30. I didnt mean at dawn.. I find it almost impossible even being out of the house before 9 30!

I think Galleriet is a great spot for us to meet. We could also walk down to the Harbour, if the weather permits:-) Any day works for me. How about tomorrow at 10:30 or Wednesday?

I will be there at 10 30 with my 10 month old boy. Inside the area where kids can play in the cafe upstairs in Galleriet. That is where you can come in and close the door which is great for escaping babies. See you there!
