At home with older children in Bergen?

Hi,

I have just come back to Norway after being in Australia for a year and we haven't got a barnehage plass for our 3 and 1 year old yet. So I am at home with them, and starting to get very bored! I've got a couple of friends that I see who are still on maternity leave with their second, but when we get together, my 3 year old gets quickly bored.

Just wondering if there is anyone else in Bergen in the same boat, and whether you would like to get together, or if anyone can just help me with things to do with older children during the week? In Australia, we had kindergym one day, "fairy ballet" another and got together with friends another, but it just seems like all the other 3 year olds here are in barnehage!

hi, i dont live in bergen, but have you tried out "åpen barnehage"? here in oslo there are several "åpen barnehage" where u can come with your kid and hang out and talk to other parents. and also there are babyswim/children swimming lessons during the day. This is also for older kids, not just babies.

I'm from Ireland, but I speak norwegian fluently. Ive been in Bergen half my life:)

I have a 4 year old son, who goes to kindergarden in Åsane but he usually stays home during the holidays, like easter and of course in summer. I'm pregnant with my second child...

Where do you guys live?

 

Not sure what else to do with older kids than go to a open kindergarden, there are a few around the town centre at least.

Hi, you are right that many older kids are in barnehage... You can always hit the library puppet shows (ask them) as they are free, but if you have a under 2 they may have difficulty sitting through something for the older crowd.

Have you tried to go to the New to Bergen group? They meet every first friday of the month at Dickens downtown at 6 pm, including may 1. You may bond with other englishspeakers and find a network.

Where in Bergen do you live? We sometimes hang out at our local playground from around 2 pm if the weather is nice, with a 1 and 5 year old, just biking or on the swings or having an outdoor snack.
