New Mothers Group for English speaking gals?

Hi,

I am new here from New Zealand, living in Oslo with my norwegain husband. I am due to have my baby 17 March. Back home i would have joined a antenatal group of Mums to be. As I have just arrived I have not had time to attend or discover prenatal classes, and was therefore wondering if there were any other new Mums or Mums to be who would be interested in meeting up for coffee/walks and talking babies?

Also any thoughts on last minute English speaking antenatal classes in Oslo area..I am delivering at Bærum and they do not offer this service any more as far as i know.

One last thing...any suggestions of recommended places to attend Norwegian language classes?

x Beth

Hi Beth

My name is Sandra and I come from Switzerland. I moved to Oslo last august and gave birth to my son yet almost 5 months ago. I'm in a mothergroup which I see every second week but I found it very difficult because of the language barrier. They speak only norwegian and I have difficulty to follow them. I need more exchange with other foreigner. Soon I will start with norwegian lessons which you can also take for free of charge (300 hours in 6 months) you need to contact www.oslovo.no and go to the site- Voskenopplaering. Your situation is simular to mine. Normaly as soon your baby is born and the paper work is done you are allowed to free norwegian lessons.

My native language is french and german but I speak with my norwegian boyfriend in english. I have lived abroad for many years and I have also travel to New Zealand- twice!! And I loved it!!!

I'm going today for 2 weeks to Switzerland it would be nice to meet up after my return.

Where in Oslo do you live?

My email: [email protected]

Hey gals!

I would also really like to meet other mothers or mothers to be! I moved to Oslo last August and have been trying to find English speaking friends. I have a 2 month old baby girl and I actually gave birth at Baerum hospital -Beth, I'm happy to tell you about it and answer any possible questions you have. I live in Montebello, which is west Oslo and only a few minutes T-bane trip to the center.

My email address is, please let me know when you can meet :0) [email protected]

I will probably be moving to the Oslo area this spring/summer, and am expecting my first baby in September. I have lived in Kristiansand for about 2 years and have not been able to make ANY friends! Am really hoping having a baby will help open the doors a bit - have run out of ideas to break through the barriers the Norwegian folks seem to put up around them.

So if you girls will let in another when I finally get there I will be very happy!

Hi,

I just read your message. Congratulation to your pregnancy, moving to Oslo and having a baby will defenetly open the door's a lot.

We are a nice and funky little group of foreign girls (recently all mothers) living in Oslo. Beth is from New Zealand and just turned to be a mama 2 weeks ago! Tiina and Jenny are from Finnland (Tiina just got for the second time mama a week ago!) Jenny has a girl which is 4 month young and myself, Sandra I'm from Switzerland and my son will be in september 1 year young!

We would be happy to have you in our international mother group. We normaly meet up once a week and we really enjoy beeing together and talking about baby's but also exchange life experience in Oslo/Norway and how it is to be a mother in a foreign contry.

Where are you from?

We normaly keep in touch via email and phone. Here is my email adress feel free to contact me [email protected]

Bye Sandra

Thank you so much for such a welcoming message :) I am from Canada.

I have found it really difficult to learn Norwegian as everyone here speaks better English than my Norwegian. I think that has made it really hard to make friends as people down south here are less interested in foreigners and dont want to speak English, even if they can do so quite well. I have come to the point where I can speak Norsk fairly well, but I cant understand what most people say to me.

I really look forward to meeting you and the other ladies and chatting about baby stuff :) I think my husband is sick of baby this and baby that!

I will send you an email soon so we can make contact.

Thanks again :D
