Tvillingenekomiapril Skrevet 11. oktober 2008 #2 Skrevet 11. oktober 2008 It is not a routine test, you have to ask your doc/midwife to do it. And they may refuse, as the norwegian policy is not to perform random screening on pregnant women not presenting any symptoms of infection. But beeing a little bit pushy, I believe most people will get the test when asking. And, if GBS is only present in vagina/rectum and not to be found in urine-samples, you will not automatically get antibiotics during labour. Normally certain risk-factors have to be present in order to get the prophylaxis, but if you have an UTI caused by GBS, you will be treated with antibiotics both in pregnancy and during labour. The official norwegian policy is quite conservative, but it seems that there is a big difference between hospitals in how they intrepret and follow the guidelines.
