Anonym bruker Skrevet 15. august 2008 #1 Skrevet 15. august 2008 Hi everyone I was given a choice between this and Ullevål and had chosen Bærum (we are close to it) without having a chance to check it out with friends since we were only 6+3 then. Now I have second thoughts. According to Ullevål / Riks, there is no more space available (which I do not believe) and I need to have a strong case to get the hospital changed. Does anyone has any good or bad experiences giving birth at Sykehuset Asker og Bærum?
didi0311 Skrevet 15. august 2008 #2 Skrevet 15. august 2008 Hey! I was born there and I am still alive!!! It is a few..... eh... years ago though, but as far as I know it is still a good place to give birth.
Anonym bruker Skrevet 15. august 2008 #3 Skrevet 15. august 2008 You can believe that is it no more space available! People apply for riksen the minute they have a positive pregnancy test in their hand, and a lot of people from oslo and surroundings want to give birth at ullevål due to the hotel facilities. I chose ullevål 2 years ago, and was turned away from the hospital when i was well into labour. It's better the way they have it now, that they turn people away when a certain time is filled up. Trust me, having to travel far to a hospital you almost never heard of, when you have 8cm opening is not something i want to experience again:p
Anonym bruker Skrevet 16. august 2008 #4 Skrevet 16. august 2008 Thank you for all your replies. We live close to both Bærum and Ullevål, almost the same distance I think. The only reason I recall now when I rejected Ullevål was because of the lack of space and may risk being rejected during labour. Seems like there is not many here who has much experience with Bærum :-( Apart from those born there :-) when they were still a baby themselves. Thank you for your insights anyway :-D
Anonym bruker Skrevet 22. august 2008 #5 Skrevet 22. august 2008 hey this is prob abit late, but i thought id write anyways...... i will strongly recommend you to find another hospital than asker and bærum hospital. my experience of that hospital and its maternity ward is 100%negative. the maternity ward does also at the moment have several "tilsynssaker" against them. thats when the state is investigating events and malpractice by the doctors/midwifes. and also, looking aside my experience, A&B hospital do not have a peads ward and no peadiatricians on call after 16.00. if you do not have a spot at any of the hospitals in oslo (and yes, belive it when they say theyre full) i would recommend you to choose the hospital in Drammen. (buskerud sentralsykehus) its a good hospital with a good materity ward and peads ward (incase its needed)
Anonym bruker Skrevet 23. august 2008 #6 Skrevet 23. august 2008 Hi...THANK YOU VERY MUCH !!!!!!! And it is not too late for such information thank you! I have now asked my husband to check out more about the tilsynssaker. My doc said, if we really have a strong case, then he will try and see what he can do. Otherwise, he thinks there are only good things about the hospital :-S I'm very glad that I saw your reply to my thread! Thank you!!
Anonym bruker Skrevet 24. august 2008 #7 Skrevet 24. august 2008 Hi there! I have choosen Asker og Bærum, and have heard nothing negative about the hospital. My friends have been pleased, and I guess I will too. Good luck!
Anonym bruker Skrevet 24. august 2008 #8 Skrevet 24. august 2008 Hi... I'm a little confused now....... My husband said, if we are to find 'dirt' it's easy for all hospital as well, not just Bærum, so I should not worry that much for the moment. Guess we will have to go for the ultrasound and take a good look at it and ask them heaps of questions before we come to a final conclusion. Thank you for another positive reply :-)
Anonym bruker Skrevet 24. august 2008 #9 Skrevet 24. august 2008 I think your husband is a smart one, listen to him. People will always have different opinions and some therefore be disappointed about every hospital! You will be invited to the hospital before the birth, just make sure this makes you comfortable, just be prepared and ask until you get that good feeling.
Anonym bruker Skrevet 24. august 2008 #10 Skrevet 24. august 2008 :-) Any advise on what to ask and need to know?
Anonym bruker Skrevet 24. august 2008 #11 Skrevet 24. august 2008 Eh.. that's a tough one I don't know what to ask myself! Well, you may tell them that you are a bit anxious but do not know what to ask, and therefore would like to be kept informed as much as possible? You might also discuss this with you doctor or "jordmor" too? Ie discuss what to ask at the hospital? You will get at "tour" at the hospital when the birthdate gets closer - hopeful the view/tour will calm you down?
Anonym bruker Skrevet 24. august 2008 #12 Skrevet 24. august 2008 I know asker og bærum has so called journalskrivning, where you prepare your papers and get some info. The other hospitals in the oslo area don't have that, so i guess thats a good thing about asker og bærum. I would try to claim a familyroom, they have a few of those, then the father can stay with you during the hospital stay. You are not guarranted one of those rooms, but you could ask for one due to language problems etc, that you'll feel more secure if your husband is there. Also you can ask how early they will admit you, and when you first start labour is it possible to come in for a check. Under what circumstance will they consider a cesarian, and will they consider your opinion in this matter. Just some thoughts....
Anonym bruker Skrevet 24. august 2008 #13 Skrevet 24. august 2008 Thank you both, I have written all of that down and it does clam me down for now. :-D
Anonym bruker Skrevet 2. september 2008 #14 Skrevet 2. september 2008 My neighbor had both her daughters at Asker og Bærum and was super-pleased with the hospital. This was in 2001 and 2004. She chose A&B over Sykehuset Buskerud (Drammen) with daughter number 2, even though she had moved to Drammen and was living 10 minutes from the hospital. So there is one person who has had good experiences there. Can't elaborate much more than that as I don't recall much, just remember that she told me how much she liked that hospital and wanted to have her children there and nowhere else. I tried once to get changed from Sykehuset Buskerud to Riks in week 26 after I was admitted to Riks in week 26 with pre-term labor, but it was a no-go. I was told it was nearly impossible to change hospitals once you have made your choice. I ended up being happy with SB in Drammen, so that was okay for me. Good luck to you!
Anonym bruker Skrevet 3. september 2008 #15 Skrevet 3. september 2008 :-D Thank you very much for the pleasant insight! We are finally going for our ultrasound next Monday. Another good experience sure helps keep the nerves in-place :-)
Anonym bruker Skrevet 4. september 2008 #16 Skrevet 4. september 2008 Hi, I have heard many positive stories from asker and bærum. Two close friends of mine have given birth there (and both of them have also given birth at Ullevål) - and they liked both places, but prefered asker and bærum. I'm due in september and are going to asker and bærum (live in oslo, but didn't get place here). I've been to the hosipital 4 times during the pregnancy (ul, bleeding, contractions and preparing the paperwork for the birth): I've been pleased all four times. They have taken me seriously and have checked things properly every time. But, having said this: No matter which hospital you ask about you will get good and bad stories - remember that a birthstory may be dramatic no matter if a hospital has done everything it should. Good luck!
mamman-til-madeleine Skrevet 8. september 2008 #17 Skrevet 8. september 2008 Hello. I just wanted to tell you, that I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl at Asker og Bærum Sykehus, 17.07.08. And I am super-happy about it! They took very good care of us every step of the way, and were always ready to help. I felt like they genuinly cared about us, and wanted what was best for us no matter what. So my experience, is nothing but positive. Hope this can help you. Good luck
