Gjest Skrevet 31. juli 2008 #1 Skrevet 31. juli 2008 Hi, I am English and moved to Oslo from London recently with my Norwegian husband and 15-month old daughter. I would love to meet new people - anyone near Frogner? Also can anyone suggest nice things to do with a toddler in Oslo? Any urban farms, or cafes with playareas? Thanks!
noggie Skrevet 31. juli 2008 #2 Skrevet 31. juli 2008 Don't live in Oslo anymore myself, but can give you some tips. As farms go there is Bogstad gård, run the old fashion way as it is listed, Søndre ås gård( but that is at Holmlia), think there is one at Tøyen as well but can't remember the name. Most riding schools don't mind you come have a look if she likes horses. Also ask your bydelskontor about åpen barnehage( play group to you). All bydeler have to have them, the kindergardens usely takes turn, but some have it at helsestasjon. Parents can bring their kids there to play( you have to stay)and chat once or so aweek( in Søndre Nordstrand you can go all week to different kindergardens). Some charge10 or 20 kr a time, some only charge for tea or coffee. Bring lunch. This time of year the parks are nice as well! Vigelandsparken got a big play area by the main entrence( or so I hear). Think your embassy might do some stuff now and then as well. They used to any way( ex is embassy kid). Hope you like it here and just remember, Tesco is just small 2 hours away ; )
Gjest Skrevet 1. august 2008 #3 Skrevet 1. august 2008 He he... I am missing prices & choice in Tesco!! Supermarkets aren't quite the same in Norway! I will take a look at your suggestions thank you! I have already found the playground in Vigelandsparken which is fab! Whereabouts are you now?
Anonym bruker Skrevet 1. august 2008 #4 Skrevet 1. august 2008 Hi and welcome to Oslo! I'm in a similar position to yourself and would recommend you ask for a free copy of 'What's on Oslo' from Tourist Information. It's out every month. As well as giving info on what's on, it also has a 'kids and family' section, which you'd probably find really useful. I'll send you a private message with my email address. Good luck!
noggie Skrevet 1. august 2008 #5 Skrevet 1. august 2008 Hi! Live in Nannestad near Gardemoen at the moment. Send a pm if you want to chat more or meet.
anon81 Skrevet 4. august 2008 #6 Skrevet 4. august 2008 Hi, I'm english and moved here 8 mths ago. I don't think i'm that far from you, we're living in husebybakken at moment. Let me know if you would like to meet up sometime.
Gjest Skrevet 5. august 2008 #7 Skrevet 5. august 2008 That would be really nice, it doesn't seem far at all. Maybe we could meet in Frognerparken at some point?
Lilja121 Skrevet 7. august 2008 #8 Skrevet 7. august 2008 There is a great place for kids at Ekeberg. Big playgrounds as well as a farm where the kids can walk around with the animals. Really great place. As for cafes, a favourite of mine is Nazar at Sagene. They have a big play area. Otherwise there is Mecca by Akerselva and I also seem to remember that Clodion at Frogner have a playarea.
Anonym bruker Skrevet 18. august 2008 #9 Skrevet 18. august 2008 Hello, don't know if you are interested, but I'm Norwegian and live close to Frognerparken. I have two children, girl (3) and boy (8), so they are a little bit older than your daughter:-) There are several nice places to go with kids in the area. I am sure you are already aware of the opportunities in Frognerparken ("Frognerborgen" and so on)? There is an indoor playhouse for kids called "Child Planet", which can be a good option when the weather is bad. The address is Middelthuns gate 21. After closing time, you can also use the play areas of the kindergartens nearby, which is nice, because you can close the gate and don't have to worry about cars, dogs etc. There are several urban farms in the Oslo area, you have Bogstad gård which is a little bit further out of the city, but accessible by car or bus. There are others, but I cant remember the names (the kids have been to several with their kindergarten). Let me know if you want more information. I have lived in the area for over 13 years.
Anonym bruker Skrevet 18. august 2008 #10 Skrevet 18. august 2008 I'm sorry we don't have Tescos here (I can really understand that you miss them). A fairly good supermarket is "Centra" close to Frognerparken and Colosseum Kino (the cinema). It is rather expensive, but at least you will find lots of the things you want.
Gjest Skrevet 20. august 2008 #11 Skrevet 20. august 2008 A lot of people have told me about Centra now, which is pretty good, but not cheap!! My daughter loves the playground in the Frogner park, I am always surprised how many people have travelled to get there from all around Oslo, but it is fantastic for the children. We went to the barnebondegård in Kampen which my daughter loved. But does anyone know how to get to Bogstadsgård without a car?
noggie Skrevet 20. august 2008 #12 Skrevet 20. august 2008 My sister used to work there and she used the metro to Røa and then bus from there( 31? to Brekke?) Not on speaking terms with sis at the moment, but Trafikanten( clock tower at OsloS) should know.
