Anonym bruker Skrevet 13. juli 2008 #1 Skrevet 13. juli 2008 Hei I'm going to give birth at Ullevål Sykehus in Oslo. Has anyone also had a baby there? I'm wondering what to expect and any advice/info would be really helpful.
Fikkennydeliggutt08 Skrevet 14. juli 2008 #2 Skrevet 14. juli 2008 Hei. I am also going to have my baby at Ullevål, in October. I was wondering the same as you! I have heard it is a good place, sometimes busy, but there is a nice hotel there that the father can also stay in (Pasient Hotel).
Anonym bruker Skrevet 15. juli 2008 #3 Skrevet 15. juli 2008 Hi Jane Thanks for your reply. I'm not due until Jan, so you're a long way ahead of me . Any tips/info you could pass on would be much appreciated. Wishing you all the best.
Aicey Skrevet 20. juli 2008 #4 Skrevet 20. juli 2008 Hi there, You're about as far along as I am in your pregnancy Mine is due end jan/early feb. Ullevål is a big hospital, and supposed to be a good one. If you look down the list to the left here, and have a look at the link called "Fødested" you should be able to find Ullevål under there and I think quite alot of people have commented on it If you don't understand much norwegian yet perhaps your better half can help you if he speaks more norwegian Ps; If you want someone to talk to, feel free to send me a PM here on the forum with your msn adress or mail. I recently moved to Oslo myself and have absolutely no other pregnant friends around me. Best of luck to you
Anonym bruker Skrevet 14. august 2008 #5 Skrevet 14. august 2008 I gave birth there the last time - and was very happy with the place. Had a lovely mid-wife - the hotel and being able to stay together is great - just be prepared that you will be left on your own more (even though they check up on you regularly) - and that a good job for daddy is to be persistent if you need any help! Apparantly the place was packed the night I gave birth but we did not notice that at all as the atmosphere was very calm and the staff always at hand. We really wanted to come back and is so happy to go there again. If everything goes ok and you go to the hotel - remember that you have to bring everything - nappies etc. Best of luck to you.
Anonym bruker Skrevet 18. august 2008 #6 Skrevet 18. august 2008 I have given birth there twice, I'm Norwegian though. It can sometimes be very busy, but the people who work there are professional and really, really nice, and the facilities are I would think as in most other hospitals (a little bit different on "ABC", a seperate department that uses birth in pool, no pain killing etc. etc, more "back to nature" if you know what I mean). If everything goes well with you and the baby you get transferred to the hotel (Patient hotel), which is close and you don't even have to go outdoor to get there. You will get your own room, and you can also bring your husband and he can stay there (he has to pay, but it is not much). The meals are served downstairs in the cafeteria, and you either have to eat it there, but you can also bring it to the room (or better, get your husband to bring it to the room:-) ). They have different sessions with fysiotherapists etc. that you can join, and the doctors come on visits to do the normal check up on the baby and the mid wife come to the room to check you. In the room you have your own bathroom with a changing table for the baby, there are towels there and a few nappies, but better bring extra nappies. You should also bring clothes for the baby and yourself, and extra sanitary towels for yourself (is that what it is called?). What you should be aware of, is that you need to tell them yourself if you need help with anything. Do not be afraid to ask. They are there to help you, especially with the breast feeding etc. There is an alarm button in your room. Use it when you need them. Sometimes if you are there without your husband, it can be hard to find the time to go downstairs for meals etc (because they are served at a certain time). It can be a good idea to bring some bottles of drinks (breast feeding makes you very thirsty) and some easy meals (yoghurts, fruits etc.) There is a little fridge in the room that you can use to keep it cool. Since you have your own room, you can have visitors when you feel like it, and you can also meet visitors downstairs in the cafeteria, if you dont want to bring them to your room (some of them just stay "forever";-) ). If you have forgotten to bring anything, they sell a few things at the front desk (nappies, tooth brushes etc.) Let me know if you need more information.
Anon99 Skrevet 24. august 2008 #7 Skrevet 24. august 2008 Hi and thanks for your reply. You answered most of the questions I had. I'm really glad you saw and answered the post. I haven't heard anything about the ABC department, but I guess my jordmor will go through that with me later, although I'm not sure about the lack of pain relief!!
