Dr Mcstuffins Skrevet 13. mars 2008 #1 Skrevet 13. mars 2008 I`m going to the Us (hollyday) and wondering if there`s anything thats "smart" to buy over there for my (not born yet) baby?? :-)
partyoffive Skrevet 17. mars 2008 #2 Skrevet 17. mars 2008 A lot of things is cheaper as far as babystuff in the US. particulalry bigger items like carseats, strollers, bouncing seats, walkers etc. the question is w/these items weather it is worth it if you have to pay extra koli in order to get them home, it might just be just as benefitial to follow the 'kampanje salgene' here in Norway. So I think if I were going back on holiday I would hit Target and BabiesRus for: towels, washcloths, burp clothes, blankets, small handtoys and bathtoys, binky's (smokker), bottles (like Avent tåteflasker), breast pads for leakage (if you are breastfeeding), and all these small items that you use a lot!!! Prices on clothing really is not that much cheaper than home. What could be well worth it is to hit TJMAXX, Marshalls, Ross, Burlington and those places for some really cheap brand clothing (if you want that for your baby...?) have a good holiday, wish it was me!
--niffi-- Skrevet 22. mars 2008 #3 Skrevet 22. mars 2008 Check with the airline what extra baggage would cost - from the US to Norway you can usually have two bag per person, max 50 lbs (23 kg) per suitcase - so more than from most countries. To our surprise, at the airport we were told that an extra bag each (so another 23 kg each) would only have cost $75, which is less than postage to Norway. That was with KLM via Amsterdam. If you do mail things, you're mailing them to yourself, so can mark them as "gift" easily and so only pay customs on items worth more than 1000 kr, rather than 200 kr if you buy from the US. They no longer do ground/surface mail, so you have to pay airmail, which can be fairly expensive. For instance, we paid 40$ to ship a bouncy chair that cost us $40 to buy (but still cheaper in total than in Norway), and it cost $115 to mail a heavy box full of books. Clothing is cheaper than here if you go to cheap places like Target - you can easily get expensive clothes though. Bouncy chairs, mobiles, play mats, strollers and so on are LOTS cheaper - go to BabiesRUs or somewhere like that and browse. Oh, and go to Reflex or somewhere in Norway before you cross the Atlantic so you can compare prices! We also bought a bassinet when we were in the States in January, which wasn't cheaper than here but so BEAUTIFUL - paid plenty in shipping, but I absolutely LOVE it. I also bought a lot of maternity clothes. Motherhood is very low end, very cheap, lots of ugly stuff but I found super-comfortable jeans for only $30. Target and the Gap have maternity clothes, so does Ann Taylor Loft now I think - Mimi Maternity is mid-range and nice. And when I was there I was at Pea in a Pod, the super-high end store, where everything is too expensive but fun. And I bought a sweater that was on sale With the dollar this low (only around 5 kr!!!) you can hardly help saving money...
