Help! I cant find an english/norwegian name

Our baby is due in 20 days and my husband and I cannot agree on a name! He is from NZ and I am from Norway. We are both currently living in Norway but planning on relocating to NZ in a few years time. We need a name that goes well in english as well as norwegian. any suggestions? My husband loves the name Erik and is pretty set on that. I am not sure though... This is so difficult!

Erik is nice. Like it better in Norwegian than English, though.

 

Loads of names that would work well in either language - mostly biblical though. A few suggestions would be: Martin, Adam, Henry, John, Simon, Edvard, Edmund, Alfred, Thor, Kristian, Jacob, Gabriel, Karl, Henrik, Lars, Elliot, Kristoffer, Silas, Michael.

Hi, i had the same problem, my baby boy was 'nameless' for 4 weeks before we could decide. we ended up with the name Benjamin, a name i have always liked, but never considered for my boy. had a friend that thought my boy was a Benjamin.... )

We had the same problem and ended up choosing Troy Alexander.

Other names that we considered were George, Martin, Spencer, wow I actually can not remember the other ones. I know we had more. I would suggest taking a baby names book (maybe one from NZ and one from Norway) separately write down the names you like and then see if you can compile a list of names that you both like.

Thank you so much to each and every one of you for your contributions;) there are a lot of great suggestions here, and even if we dont have a name ready for him when he is born, I am sure we will find a suitable one as soon as we get to know him better! 14 days till due date now, and I am sooo excited:) I am looking forward to the birth!

And remember that a lot of english names are being used on norwegian children now. I know of Jasons, Kates and so on that is pronounced the "english way" even though they come from 100% norwegian families.

 

As long as you stay away from æ. ø and å, you'll find something you both like

Our gorgeous baby boy was born on february 20th, and sure enough, after just a few weeks both of us were calling him Eric! I am very happy with the name as it goes so well in both languages and I like the sound of it... its a very honest name I think:)

Our boys are called Marcus and Scott, and the new baby Charlie/Madelen (sex still a secret). I am Norwegian and my husband is Welsh. Good luck choosing a fitting name for your lad!

congrats on baby eric! my son is also erik, but with a k. husband is norwegian and i'm american. dh didn't want to name him erik, but i just loved the name!

We had a similar problem while looking for a name which is written/pronounced the same in Dutch, Norwegian (and English). Eventually we settled on Jacob, also because both me and his mother have ancestors with this name.

 

Jacob is expected some time in the beginning of June. :-)

Ok, I know it`s too late to help you, but if others have the same issue, I would like to suggest the name Kevin. Not a very common name in Norway, but still it works in both languages...
