aussie mum Skrevet 25. januar 2008 #1 Skrevet 25. januar 2008 My 13 month old son is starting day care in a month and I'm not sure how it works here. Do I need to send him with lunch, or will they feed him? Do I need to get special clothes? What happens if your child is sick? Any other helpful tips and advice?
Gjest -<<- Skrevet 25. januar 2008 #2 Skrevet 25. januar 2008 Depends on the day care, really. Some places provide meals, some provide meals but charge the parents a monthly amount, other places expect you to bring his food. He'll need clothes for being outdoors in all kinds of weather, good shoes etc. - but you'll likely be getting a list of what the day care expects all kids to have when he starts. If the kid's sick he stays at home. If he gets sick in day care they call you and you come pick him up. Many day cares expect you to keep the child home for one extra day if he's been vomiting or had a fever, to minimize the risk of infecting all the others. Norwegian law allows every parent ten days off work w/full pay to spend with sick child (or 20 days if you're a single parent). The parents are usually expected to spend three days with the child in the day care, as he adjusts to the place - "tilvenning." Most employers are flexible in this regard, and you're likely to get the time off for this without having to spend vacation days.
