Anyone has any experience with cloth diapers?

We are thinking about this environmentally friendly option and I would like to hear some feedback!

I have just done a little research and I have a basic dilemma:

 

Prefolds/contoured/fitted diapers + covers or the all-in-one?

 

Can I use a liner in both options?

 

Does this mean I can just shake off waste in the toilet and maybe use the actual diaper more than once (Instead of sending it to wash after each use?)

 

What do you personally recommend? What helps saving the most money?

I haven't used them myself yet but have also done lots of research and will try on my second baby who's due this month!

 

A liner can be used in any system, and if it's a flushable liner you can just flush the whole thing away, with any solid waste on it - I'm definitely going to try that. However as far as I understand you can't reuse the actual nappy as it'll still be wet - the liner just makes it easier to get rid of poo basically and makes it easier to clean.

 

If you go for an all in one system you'll have to wash the whole thing after each use. With two part systems you can usually just replace the inner part (prefold/fitted nappy etc.) and reuse the cover - meaning you need fewer inner parts than wraps. This usually works out cheaper and most of the two part systems are easier to wash as well as they normally fold out to dry - they're also supposed to last longer than all-in-ones. Having said that the one part systems are supposed to be easier, as you just use them like normal disposable nappies!

 

I'm going for a two-part system as it'd be too expensive otherwise - I currently change my 15month old's nappy 5-6 times a day so I guess that would mean I'd need at the very least 12 all-in-ones, washing every other day. Prefolds are a lot cheaper.

 

So now I'll just have to wait and see if they're any good!

Hi Cat,

yeap, I ended up ordering the two parts one myself. No flushable liners yet, since i was told it would be useless with a new born (apparently they don't make that much "solid", hm?)

Baby coming in 4 weeks...we'll see how we go
