both the care and the birth are generally run completely by midwives, or "jordmor". In both my birth experiences, the treatment and hospital stays were fantastic. I found them to be attentive, caring, and really nurturing. I had midwives both times. You can forego the midwife for the pregnancy check ups and just go to the "fastlege", or GP, but they tend to be less attentive and more general. I loved my midwives!

At the hospital though, it is almost aways a midwife attentding you.

I will say this, they are a LOT less invasive over here...they hardly test you for anything---for me it was only ever urine tests, the initial blood tests, measuring the tummy, and listening for the heartbeat. You will get only one ultrasound, and are offered an amnio only if you are over 35/36. All the other insane amount of testing they do in the US is not on offer unless there is a history or other need for it. They also have a low c-section rate---a good think in my book.

Hi! My name is Paula and I am from Argentina (although I've spent the last 4 years in the US and UK).

I am 34 weeks pregnant and I agree with you, I was sort of expecting more testing and check ups and sometimes i feel a bit insecure but I guess it's just more normal...more natural that the insanity of other countries...hehe

Thanks for your message, it helps to know that I wasn't the only one expecting something different! :)
