I would assume that the thrush you're referring to is the vaginal variety and not the oral or nipple thrush?

 

In that case Trøske is wrong as that is not used for the vaginal infection.

 

It's called Underlivssopp, alternatively, Soppinfeksjon.

 

It's also known as Candida which I'm sure your GP will know as the medical name of the actual strain of yeast infection.

 

And for crying out loud people, is it really necessary to be so snappy? I'm sure everyone who's replying are just trying to help!

I have never heard the word "thrush" or the word "trøske" for a vaginal infection. I don't think anybody is suggesting that.

Sorry Tokatter, I didn't see the "of the mouth" part, that's my mistake. I assume you are in the US according to your nick, so I can only explain that "thrush" is used in the UK both for vaginal yeast infection and also "trøske". I just thought there were a lot of people arguing backwards and forwards as I find a lot of the time on this board when it comes to translations. We seem to forget that US and British English are actually quite different, especially when it comes to medical terminology. Might be an idea to bear in mind.

It's interesting that vaginal fungus infection is called thrush in the UK. Maybe it is in the US too, I have just never heard it. But we weren't discussing that :-)

 

I am aware that many British English and American English words are different. But the question was what the Norwegian word for thrush(of the mouth) was. No arguing backwards and forwards, just a couple of Norwegians who had never heard the word "trøske" before.

'trøske' is a old word of mouth here in norway, a word granparents used, that not all young people know these days! but it is for sure the word for thrush/yeast infection in the mouth.

 

one thing that my mum used to treat it was 'faris' the carbonated water.... supose to be quite good, with no side effects.
