mimmitiltre Skrevet 10. august 2007 #1 Skrevet 10. august 2007 hi my husband is from scotland and we are expecting a baby in jan 08. We are therefore wondering if anybody knows whether there are any prenatal classes in english in oslo? would be nice if my husband would be able to understand what was said, so he know how to massage etc druring birth:)
Anonym bruker Skrevet 31. august 2007 #2 Skrevet 31. august 2007 hope you see this. At rikshospitalet, there is an english (act i think she is scottish) midwife that holds prenatal classes. We went to this because my husb is american, so he could understand and learn about the birth etc. Her name is elisabeth berg, i dont have the number anymore, but if you call "fødeavd" in rikshospitalet, they'll probably put you trough (i got the phone number from my midwife at helsestasjonen). It was three nights (9 hours total), small group and a friendly atmosphere. I recommend the classes:-)
mimmitiltre Skrevet 15. september 2007 Forfatter #3 Skrevet 15. september 2007 thank you for that great tip:) unfortunately the midwife you were mentioning is moving to another hospital somewhere in baerum this autum and will therefore not have any classes before next year:( guess we will just have to do a regular norwegian speaking class then..
Gjest Skrevet 15. september 2007 #4 Skrevet 15. september 2007 I went to her class 8 years ago along with my American husband, and I highly recommend it. Bærum sykehus is not very far from Oslo, you should really consider going.
JKHM Skrevet 6. november 2007 #5 Skrevet 6. november 2007 Hi I am a childbirth educator trained in the US and have held classes in Oslo and in Ås for 19 years! I teach in Norwegian but have many couples that have a need for English explanations. I answer questions in English or explain things during the breaks in English. Sometimes, I do private sessions with couples. Interested?
goldielocks Skrevet 23. november 2007 #6 Skrevet 23. november 2007 i met elisabeth berg at rikshospitalet after giving birth to my son there in may this year. what a great lady she was as well, really kind and funny and straight to the point. she is scottish and i am too so we could speak our own language. just made me smile to see her name mentioned above )
Tonjecs Skrevet 3. desember 2007 #7 Skrevet 3. desember 2007 We're an English/Norwegian couple and very interested in what you, JKHM, are offering. Please contact us at [email protected] regarding prices etc.
Ladypau Skrevet 2. januar 2008 #8 Skrevet 2. januar 2008 I am interested! I am 34 weeks pregnant, from Argentina but lived in the US and UK for over 4 years (hence english speaker) and could really use some support and training! Please, contact me at [email protected] Thanks a lot! Paula
JGab Skrevet 30. mars 2009 #9 Skrevet 30. mars 2009 I know this is quite an old post, but I was really hoping you are still offering classes or private sessions Or if anyone knows of some more recent information on English antenatal classes in the Oslo area? I am Canadian, my husband is Norwegian, and I struggle with understanding Norsk. As I am the one who is going to give birth (for the first time), I really really want to understand what to expect.
mimmitiltre Skrevet 5. juni 2009 Forfatter #10 Skrevet 5. juni 2009 hi, i started the post, originally:) sorry to say that we never found anywhere they offered classen in english, we just read heaps of books, movies, etc and were well prepared when they day finally came. we did go to the normal classes in norwegian and i translated what was needed to my husband, but he understood must of it anyway:) GOOD LUCK:)
Jenni82 Skrevet 8. juni 2009 #11 Skrevet 8. juni 2009 Hi JGab! We also tried to find prenatal classes in English in the Oslo area, but had no luck. You probably speak English with your midwife at the helsestajson, don't you? What we did is asked her to reserve a little extra time in order for her to explain what goes on (she had drawings that I assume your helsestasjon also has -the pictures explained what happens during different stages). I know you must feel like you have to attend a prenatal class, but I'm sure a one-on-one with your midwife will do. It's not 9 hours, but what my midwife told me and I read from books was enough :0) I was also slightly anxious about giving birth for the first time and in a foreign country, but I'm sure everthing will be just fine! In the end your body is designed for this and your midewife will guide you through the entire process. Good luck :0)
