Planning to use a "doula"?

In my prenatal yoga class I hear several women are hiring a "doula" to help them through their labor.

 

Anyone with such experience?

I've had a friend of me with us during birth of my kids. Guess that's about the same as a doula?

I myself am thinking of being a doula myself, since I have quite a lot of experience (having my 4th child this month) and would love that kind of 'work'. Have thought of studying for being a midwife, but I think the study is to long to start with now.
