Live in Norway...christening in England?

I'm English, my partner is Norwegian. We're thinking of christening our baby in England, since my whole family lives over there.

 

But I'm not sure if this is possible? Would the child be a member of 'Statskirken' in this case? And would the English church allow this?

Hello. I don't really have an answer, but more the same question.. My husband is English and wants our second child to be christened in Engalnd. Our first is Christened here. She is a member of stats kirken, but only because we christend her here I think. My Husband is also a Catholic so then we would have one protestant and one catholic child..

I really don't know how it workes? Don't you need to me a "member" of a congregation or a church there to be able to have a christening?

Hi korsika, I am Norwegian and my husband is English.Since he is Catholic and I am not even babtized both our children are christned in England. I don't think either "Statskirken" or the English church will mind. "Statskirken" even managed to register our youngest as a members eventhough she is not christend in Norway.

I got this answer on 3. trimester:

 

'De kan jo døype i sjømannskyrkja - då blir babyen automatisk medlem av DNK. Men vanleg anglikansk dåp er godkjent som barnedåp i Noreg, så det er ikkje noko problem å bli "innmeldt" i ettertid.

Eg ville tatt kontakt med menighetskontoret der de bur for å høyre korleis det fungerer, men i praksis er katolsk, anglikansk og lutheransk dåp same ritualet og blir godkjent i alle kyrkjene.'

 

So I think I'm going to call the local church minister and ask. Sjømannskirken is also an alternative, although London is not very convenient for us..
