Our little Aussie/Norwegian girl is called Sophie :) I pronounce it in Norwegian and my boyfriend in English. And she does the same, depending on who she's talking to (English or Norwegian).

We were looking for a name that sounded the same in both languages, but we both loved this name.

Or how about : Lucy, Olivia, Mia, Sarah, Ella, Lilly

(Hmmm... it is hard isn't it?!)

Did you like any of these? :)

Thanks heaps for helping. We've been through some of the names above, I like Mia, and maybe Maya too but kind of feel we want something more different.... Been thinking about Lina, thats quite nordic but not so hard to pronounce in english once they find out its pronounced Lina and not Laina. Oh I dont know. Sophie is very cute. Do you live in Norway or Oz? We're in Oslo to summer and then heading down under for a year or two.

More suggestions - very appreciated!

No!!! Don't choose Mette! It's a beautiful name, but nobody understood my friend when she said her name! They thought it was Matty! It was like their mouth just couldn't say it!

Isabella is a beatutiful name! Or even have a look at really old Norwegian ones?!

We're in Australia, been here for two years now!

What about Sidney or Victoria??? great Australian cities, pronouncable in both languages and beautiful in both languages.

haha, My sister's name is Mette, and she can totally relate to your comment. My husband (amercan) loves to tease her and call her martha and\or matty. She HATES it.

My daughter's name is Kiara Samantha, and both those names works really well.

Hello,

I suggest Ellen. It doesn't pronounce exactly identical in English and Norwegian, but near enough. Short and easy to spell. My parents chose Suzanne for me to be international and that surely works everywhere - even in French! Other suggestions:Julia, Hannah. Good luck and please let us know your final choice.. :-)

I think Molly is a really cute name and it goes well in both English and Norwegian. That will probably be my baby's name if it turns out that I'm expecting a girl. We're an British/Norwegian couple.

Hey people thanks a lot for your answers. To Curious: we havent landed on a name yet, still eight weeks to go and I feel I need to see her first to make up my mind. I like Selma but my boyfriend cant help but assosiate it to Bart Simpsons aunt...And he's from Brisbane and dont like the idea of Sydney even though I think its sweet. Not sure if my norwegian grandmother would know how to pronounce it though... One name we are really concidering is Lina. My aussie boyfriend thinks it cool even though he would like to spell it Lena - but that makes it a total different name in norwegian. Any good suggestions on whats a good second name for Lina? Not sure if we need one, but fun anyway.

And have a wonderful day everyone
