Cele Skrevet 25. januar 2010 #1 Skrevet 25. januar 2010 I am norwegian, my husband is american (from LA) moving to Oslo in February. We have a 7 month old son (scooting around here on the floor). We love to find some people to hang out in Oslo, to share experiences - socialize our son with other english/norwegian speaking kids and maybe watch some NHL? Is there an international playgroup for dads in Oslo?
shari_z Skrevet 3. februar 2010 #2 Skrevet 3. februar 2010 See my answer on another post here for more information. The short answer is, there is a group that meets at Høvik kirke Wednesdays from 9.30-12 noon for children ages 0-4 and their parents. It is an International group. My guess would be that it is mostly moms who go there, but there might be some dads. I live in Drammen and go to several åpen barnehager here, and there are actually stay-at-home dads who take there children (but they are in the minority). And your husband should also look at the website of the American Coordinating Council of Norway (www.accn.no) to get more information for American expats. I think the two greatest things they do are 1) put out a Resource Guide (can be downloaded on their website), and 2) [this is the ultimate best thing], they arrange a Fourth of July party each year in Frognerparken. I've been there every year since 2004 (when I first heard of it), except for the summers I've been back in the U.S., and I can just say it is a fabulous, fun-filled, family-oriented day. Highly recommend it!

Always fun to meet new people :-)
Canadiankate Skrevet 23. mars 2010 #4 Skrevet 23. mars 2010 Hi there, I moved to Oslo with my norwegian partner in September 2009 from London, England but am Canadian originally (well versed on the NHL of course!). My partner is quite international having done his high school and university education in England and his parents also lived in Washington DC for a number of years. We have a 3 month old baby girl.I know quite a few Americans and Canadians with children under 1 in the frogner area - met through this forum, my english speaking barsel gruppe and the Canadian network. Let me know if I can help at all. Kate
Cele Skrevet 29. mars 2010 Forfatter #5 Skrevet 29. mars 2010 Awesome! I must admit its been somewhat of a challenge coming back, we lived in a very social neighborhood with lots of bbqs and outdoor movie watching (big white sheet and projector!). Not quite the same here so far . I sent you (mrs. m and Canadiankate) both a private message (and forgot to open up to receive private messages, but thats now all sorted out!).
dualamerican Skrevet 5. mai 2010 #6 Skrevet 5. mai 2010 Great to see so many mixed couples looking looking to get together here in Oslo! I'm an American-Norwegian living in Oslo with my Norwegian wife. We have a one and half year old daughter whom we are teaching both languages. Having grown up in Norway as not quite a Norwegian, I have always appreciated contact with Americans in Norway or others in a similar situation. I would love to get in touch with some of you, so if interested in getting together some time, let the kids talk and chat - send me a pm! Living in Oslo East Central. Cheers
