Canadiankate Skrevet 23. august 2009 #1 Skrevet 23. august 2009 Hi there, It is great to see a group like this as I was worried I wouldnt find any english speaking mothers forum in Oslo. I am moving to Oslo in September with my Norwegian partner from London and we are expecting a little girl on December 24th. I am originally from Canada (Montreal/Vancouver split) but have lived in London for the past five years. It would be great to meet some other moms or moms to be as I have heard it can be tough to meet people. Any guidance or advice would be warmly welcomed. Kate
Tonjecs Skrevet 23. august 2009 #2 Skrevet 23. august 2009 Exciting times ahead for you! I live in Oslo with my partner, from London, and or 18 month old son. I'd love to meet up when you move over!! I am Norwegian, hope thats ok. Hope to hear from you!
NormaJean Skrevet 23. august 2009 #3 Skrevet 23. august 2009 HI Kate welcome to Norway:) Dont think you need to worry about not meeting english speaking moms in oslo;) Send me a PM if you wanna meet, im norwegian, but used to live in australia. Where in oslo are you moving? ps, when u move to oslo, make contact with your lokal helsestasjon (community health care centre) and make sure you become a part of a barselgruppe (mommy and me group) Then you can make friends with norwegian gals with kids the same age as yours:-)
Sandida Skrevet 24. august 2009 #4 Skrevet 24. august 2009 Hi Kate, The norwegian barselgruppe (via helsestasjon) is good to start with. If you wanna be more connected with moms from different countys we have created our international moms-group in Oslo. We speak english and we are great fun. Contact me if you are interested. Sandra
Canadiankate Skrevet 24. august 2009 Forfatter #5 Skrevet 24. august 2009 Tonjecs, Exciting times for sure! Bit scary as well. I would love to meet up too and happy to meet other Norwegians. We are still figuring where we want to live as it is a very diffferent market and system to London so i dont know the exact area we will be in but I will get in touch when I get there and we can definitely meet up. What is your son's name? Thanks for being so welcoming. Kate
Canadiankate Skrevet 24. august 2009 Forfatter #6 Skrevet 24. august 2009 Hi there, Thanks for your message. I will get in touch when I arrive officially and arrange a time to meet as I will have lots of time before the baby is born. I used to live in Australia as well - Brisbane. Where did you live? Thanks for the advice. Will check it out. We are still figuring out where we will live but I think it will be fairly central. Speak soon. Kate
NormaJean Skrevet 24. august 2009 #7 Skrevet 24. august 2009 I lived in Adelaide, city of churches, hahaha. What price range you are looking at, are you buying or renting?
Tonjecs Skrevet 25. august 2009 #8 Skrevet 25. august 2009 My sons name is Johan and he is, off course, the most beautiful boy in the world. I look forward to hearing from you! By the way; before you leave London: Since you probably have alot of stuff to move anyway, here is a list of what you should buy in London(that are a LOT more expensive here) - babywipes(buy as much as you can!!, as you most likely know Wilkinsons always have good bargains) - talcum-powder, if you use it(also Wilkinsons) - nursing-pads(very cheap at Morrisons if you get their own brand) I can go on and on... PM me if you want an exctended list. Tonje

Mirela Skrevet 1. februar 2010 #10 Skrevet 1. februar 2010 Hi Kate, Hope your little girl arrived safely and that you are enjoying motherhood. I had a baby boy in Oslo 13 months ago. I am Australian and don't speak any Norwegian so found it very tough without any friends there. My husband is working in Oslo and I am at the moment in UK but will be moving to Oslo in a couple of months or so. It would be great to meet up with other English speaking mums so if you have made any contacts and if there are any mums wanting to get together please let me know. Cheers!
