LapScouse Skrevet 29. mars 2008 #1 Skrevet 29. mars 2008 Any driving schools in Bergen etc. that have "Trafikkalt grunnkurs" in English? I know you can get the theory books in English, but I'm sort of more in need of the "kurs" so the driving can start, soon as. Anyone? Thanks.
Anonym bruker Skrevet 30. mars 2008 #2 Skrevet 30. mars 2008 I did the course in norwegian and I don't live in Bergen so I am no help!
Anonym bruker Skrevet 1. april 2008 #3 Skrevet 1. april 2008 Haven't heard of any, unfortunately.... My hubby had a dreadful experience taking his license in Bergen (just the practical test as he has a non-EU license already) I'm afraid - his Norwegian wasn't that great yet and the instructors' English was shocking, they clearly resented speaking it (he tried a few hoping for a better experience) and then the actual test was awful - the "sensor" refused to speak English and barked out commands in Norwegian - follow the signs to [insert strange Norwegian place name] and when my hubby couldn't remember the strange Norwegian place name and missed a turn the "sensor" got mad and my hubby got nervous and - long story cut short, failed the test, which is ridiculous since he's been driving for 20 years, and his issue is simply that his Norwegian isn't great. Sorry the story's so discouraging... People have said we should have written an official complaint, but we never did and hubby's now so disheartened about Norwegian licenses that we've just decided to be carless. Which sort of works. mostly.
Gorgonvaktmester Skrevet 24. juni 2008 #4 Skrevet 24. juni 2008 You should definately have written a complaint - it is not a requirement to understand Norwegian to get a driver's license. If the examiner from the Vegvesen and the candidate aren't able to understand each other an interpreter needs to be present. Have you thought about getting the license elsewhere? There is at least one place north of Bergen that does "express" licenses - you stay there and do nothing but drive for two weeks, then have your test in a small town with basically one roundabout and one light stop.
noggie Skrevet 27. juni 2008 #5 Skrevet 27. juni 2008 If it have to be in English then why on earth don't you do it in Uk??? You get one of those intensive courses ( alot cheaper than here as well)and when you come back here you just change it in for a Norwegian license, takes about 2 days and no new tast. Easy peasy and a holiday to go with : ))
Anonym bruker Skrevet 6. august 2008 #6 Skrevet 6. august 2008 UK are driving on the 'wrong' side of the road according to Norwegians?? Dont you have to re-do part of the test due to that??
noggie Skrevet 6. august 2008 #7 Skrevet 6. august 2008 Yes, they drive on the other side, but the basics are the same. Got lots of British friends over here and some have swaped their license for Norwegian but they didn't have to re-do any parts of it. Why would you do that anyway? If they take your British license off you( they don't bother much with foreigners), you reapply for a new one in Swansea. Same with British cars, and lets face it they are A LOT cheaper than in this country, you are supposed to re- register in Norway after 6 months BUT if you got family( like kids) in Britain and the car leave Norway once a month for 24 hour you don't have to. Its a loop hole, I know, but its there....
Chunky81 Skrevet 25. august 2008 #8 Skrevet 25. august 2008 my husbans didn't have any problem taking the test and driving lessons here. is is american and also had to take the driving test. i think he drove with trafikksentralen (think that is the name, next to bystasjonen)
