Hei Shari!

Well I hope you are having a good time in Texas? Do you enjoy being back there or does it seem different now?

Finally, our little girl arrived after three days of labour on 10 June. Her name is Benedicte Niharika ( the last name is Indian as I am of Indian origin - and means dew drop), but her nickname is Chilli. It was quite a difficult time. I ended up having all the inducement methods and then my blood pressure dropped too low after the epidural. She ended up being vacuumed out though my husband tells me they were considering a c-section towards the end.

I have to say the midwives were good, but I share your view totally on the barsel side! I did want to try the breastfeeding and Chilli latched on fine. However, I really wasn't producing enough milk and rather than accepting that, the barnepleiers kept convincing me that her screeching cries were just 'because babies do that' - I had to insist that she be fed something and they admitted that if she hadn't got anything then, she was extremely close to dehydrating!!

When that happened, I decided there was no need for me to be there as I had nothing more to learn from them so I managed to get home even though they wanted me to stay longer because of various complications.

However, we are all fine now. She is a good kid overall - at the moment! But I know it all changes daily!! The heat here hasn't helped her - it has been stifling.

Anyway, I look forward to meeting you when you come back!

Write back when you have time.

Hi Rajni,

Yes, I am having a great time in Texas and really enjoying the heat while I have the chance! I'm down to my last days as I leave on Wednesday and will be home on Thursday. I'm a bit sad to leave my home and family, but also happy to going to my other home and seeing my husband again. Very mixed feelings.

Sounds like you did not have such a great time in Barsel. :-( That is a pity, because when you are already very hormonal, they ought to strive harder. At least, that is my opinion. I dont remember if I told you earlier, but I have had problems with breastfeeding both times in that my babies lost too much weight. This time, oddly enough since she was the big baby, my girl did get dehydrated - in spite of them giving her formula in addition to what I breastfed. They **really** stressed me out, but I have come to the conclusion after talking with a midwife friend of mine, that I am just one of those women who do not begin to "produce milk" until 5 days after the birth. Of course something was coming out before that, but it wasnt until 5 days after every time that the serious milk supply came in - and then everything turned around for me. Now my baby is almost 10 months old and is so happy with the breastfeeding that she doesnt want to eat people food! That has been a trial, to get her to eat, and with only limited success. But at least she opens her mouth now (sometimes) and will eat a small amount of food about once a day.

If I ever have another baby, I will leave barsel as soon as possible after the birth as I will be much less stressed at home.

I hope we can meet up after I get back. I see that another one, TrengerEnVenn, would also like to meet up. In spite of my efforts last autumn to get an English group together, it remained only myself and the girl who originally started this thread. While that was cozy and she is a sweet girl, it appears she will be moving soon (sob, sob on my part - I'll miss her) and I'd like to try again to get together with other English-speaking mothers on a somewhat regular basis. Especially for the older children it will be helpful to them to hear more English being spoke, but for the mothers, it will just be a nice, cozy time. :-) Natalie and I were very fond of taking walks together with a stop for lunch and chatting. I will send pm's again to all the ones in the thread so far who have expressed an interest in meeting when I get back to Norway and get back on Norwegian time and see if we can't meet up. At the very least, I'd love to meet you and your little Chilli girl (whose name otherwise is just beautiful!)

Have fun with Chilli - they grow up waaay too fast!

Write back when you have time, and I'll take contact through pm when I get back to Norway!

Hi Rajni! (and anyone else interested in meeting in English)

I'd love to meet up sometime if you have a chance. Was going to send you a pm, but you don't have a profile so I can't do that. Let me know if you are interested in meeting up.
